Acorn Health & Leisure Ltd was set up by Michael Hough and Mary Franck in 2015 and they successfully ran and rejuvenated what became known as Acorns in Copthorne, including through lockdown times and having a new indoor pool built. Acorns was fundamental to the local community and when a catastrophic fire destroyed the building in August 2022 it was an extremely emotional and sad time for many. Fast forward to February 2023 and Acorns started in the role of operator at East Grinstead Sports Club – an opportunity Michael and Mary consider extremely fortunate to have been offered. “We recognised immediately the potential that such a fantastic site offers, especially with its depth of history and role within the community” says Managing Director, Michael. “It certainly has its challenging aspects but we are delighted with the significant steps we have been able to take to improve the offerings to club users and we plan to continue along this path as far as we can. Year one saw the rebuild and refit of the gym, winning us Gym of the Year at the National Fitness Awards. Year two saw the opening of the prestigious EG Padel Centre. Year three will, amongst other things, see the resurfacing of the water-based hockey pitch and the 3G football pitch.”
