Club News:
THE GLEAMING GREEN 3G PITCH IS NOW JOINED BY THE NEWLY RESURFACED, BRILLIANT BLUE HOCKEY PITCH – both fantastic investments in the facilities of the club and brilliant for the local and wider communities of football and hockey. Great timing with the upcoming season kick-off! We look forward to both pitches being very busy. A football charity match with the Queen Victoria Hospital and Ifield FC did a thorough testing of the new 3G surface and was given a hearty thumbs up and on Sunday 16th August we have an all-day football tournament for the East Grinstead Cup – come along and enjoy the fun! We will have our new drinks and snacks area open by the 3G and a BBQ.
Hockey will be having a series of training sessions and matches on their new pitch and an open weekend for kids and adults to come along and try out hockey, and find out what it’s about, on 5/6 September. There are so many opportunities here to come along and try things out to find an activity that suits you, at your level – netball, cricket, badminton, table tennis, pickleball, Padel and more – and there’s plenty of social activities going on as well. We try and make it all as easy as possible with pay and play being available for almost everything and bookings can be made via the Clubright app (which is available to everyone) or by calling Imogen or Katie on the front desk on 01342 321210.
The Clubright app is free for everyone, simple to use and it works for the majority of our bookings. Simples!
WE’RE PROUD TO WORK WITH A NUMBER OF CHARITIES including the East Grinstead Meridian Rotary, East Grinstead Lions and HerMove. We’re excited to be hosting the next HerMove Live event and here’s a few words from HerMove co-founder and Health & Well Being Coach, Alyson Bowcott:
“Join us on Saturday 12th September at East Grinstead Sports Club for the HerMove Live ’26 – a fun, inclusive day celebrating women and girls in sport. Whether you’re trying something new or returning to an activity you love, there will be opportunities to have a go at pickleball, padel, line dancing, cricket and football, with friendly coaches and local clubs on hand to welcome you. Bring your friends and family, get active, make new connections and discover the fantastic sporting opportunities available in our community.”

OUR TEAM work incredibly hard to try and make your experience here as good as possible and between them they have a huge range of experience and knowledge about all sorts of sports activities and a wealth of insight into other areas as well. They’re an approachable bunch so please make the most of them! Congratulations to our staff member of the month, Josh Barlow, who just happens to have turned 21 as well. Ryan and Alex have been busy running our first (and very successful) football camp; Lisa and her team have been turning out stupendous cricket teas, BBQs and all sorts of delicious offerings from the kitchen; Reagan has been zipping around making the site looks good; all sorts of team members have been working tirelessly at the LookOut/FanZone, in particular Neil; Jim has completed yet another amazing running feat over a 24 hour period (time to put your feet up Jim!) and we welcome new team member, Dylan, and welcome back Nathan. Thank you everyone.
Gym News:
We hope you are all enjoying the summer and making the most of the wonderful weather we have been having recently.
Despite the holiday season being in full swing, the atmosphere in the gym remains fantastic. It has been great to see so many members continuing to train, with class attendance remaining strong throughout the summer months. Whether you’re working towards a specific goal or simply maintaining a healthy routine, thank you for helping to create such a positive and welcoming environment.
We know that balancing training with family commitments can be challenging during the school holidays, especially with children at home and summer activities filling the diary. Remember that every workout counts, and even a short session can help you stay on track until normal routines resume in September.
For those of you heading away, we hope you have a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Enjoy the break, stay active where you can, and we look forward to welcoming you back when you return.
Finally, we’re pleased to be offering a special Summer Student Membership. Available to anyone aged 16 and over, this membership costs just £30 for one month, with no contract and no commitment. It’s the perfect option for students returning home for the summer who want to stay active and keep up their training.
Have a fantastic rest of the summer!

FC Meads:
An update from the Chair of FC Meads, Alan Kingshott, sharing a great achievement:
“As some of you will know, one of my objectives over the past 12 months has been to elevate the club’s appeal in the local area. To meet this objective, one of the priorities has been to be able to offer a higher standard of football.
Our U13 boys team and us as a club, has been approved to join the Junior Premier league. Today, the provisional league has been released and I have attached the teams that will be visiting the sports club during the season. It will be great to welcome the Chelsea U13 girls as well as Aldershot and Roehampton to the club and there are some other good teams in this league.”
Huge congratulations to all the team at FC Meads – this is no mean feat and testament to much hard work and commitment. We’re looking forward to the upcoming season and cheering you on.
East Grinstead Hockey Club
EGHC never, ever stand still and this is a big part of the reason behind their stonking successes. They are a passionate, committed, hardworking and dedicated community who strive for success at every level. There is probably no finer example of this than the story of Biba Mills who grew up playing hockey here and is now off to play in Rotterdam to get ultra level experience and even more proficient at goal scoring – read about it here:
https://www.eghockey.co.uk/club-news/good-luck-thank-you-biba
Teenager Biba was also recently voted as senior player of the year in the prestigious Hockey Writers’ Club annual awards. We salute you, Biba, and wish you all the very best – and please don’t forget us.
On Saturday 15 August EGHC is running the Tamoor Abdullah Memorial Tournament; Tamoor was a former captain of the Men’s III team and very sadly passed away last year. More information here but
please do come along to see some great hockey and share memories of a good man.
It’s the Hockey World Cup from 14-30 August and matches will be shown live at the FanZone by the LookOut – with the England women’s team featuring 6 of our Ladies I team! Refreshments available.
