Project Pitch Perfect – The Latest Updates! 16th June

We are now on week 4 of the 3G pitch renovations and the progress has been great!

So far:

  • Week 1: The turf and shock pad layer were both removed and sent for recycling. The shock pad is being recycled in the Netherlands, while the former 3G surface is being repurposed at an adventure park in the West Country, giving the material a second life.
  • Week 2/3: The new eco-friendly shock pad rubber was put down. A modern shock pad system helps reduce the effects of surface compaction, creating a safer and more comfortable playing environment for players of all ages.
  • Week 4: The turf is currently being installed. Each section has been carefully marked to ensure accurate and consistent lines, making games easier to play, coach and officiate. Advanced grass fibres provide a more natural feel underfoot, creating a high-quality playing surface that closely replicates the performance and experience of natural grass.
  • Week 5&6: The brand new 3G turf has been laid and the majority of the lines have been installed by stitching. The rest of the pitches will be marked out by the end of the week. The contractors are currently spreading 86 tonnes of specialist kiln dried sand which will aid drainage and compaction to ensure it’s all year round usage whilst keeping a comfortable playing surface.

The contractors have done a great job, despite the ever-changing weather conditions. We are now ahead of schedule. The pitch is expected to be completed within the upcoming week!
